Derrick C. Flemming

Derrick C. Flemming is originally from Park Forest, Illinois, a suburb a few miles south of Chicago. Derrick attended Indiana State University (ISU) where he received his Bachelor of Science degree in 2016 - majoring in Criminology/Criminal Justice and minoring in legal studies. He went on to attend Thurgood Marshall School of Law at Texas Southern University and received his Juris Doctor in 2021. Derrick received his license to practice law in Texas that same year. Since graduating Derrick has gained experience in numerous legal areas including tax, nonprofit compliance, election law, and criminal law.         


Derrick previously served on the Board of Directors as Vice President of the nonprofit Campaign Home from 2021 - 2023. Derrick has been a criminal defense attorney at the firm Dunham & Jones in their Houston since 2022. In addition to this, Derrick is also a volunteer attorney with the Texas Fair Defense Project where he represents qualified individuals in hearings to clear their criminal records. He is also a proud member of both the NAACP and Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. Derrick has a passion for community engagement and empowerment through advocacy, organizing, and "good trouble".


He is proud to serve as the 2nd Vice President of Sunnyside Super Neighborhood #71, a historic Black neighborhood in Houston, where he represents the interests of residents, businesses, and faith based organizations to city council and the community at large.
