Amelia Flemming

Amelia Flemming has been a proud resident of the Southland area for over 35 years, currently residing in Matteson, Illinois. Appointed by Mayor Sheila Chalmers-Curin, she serves as Commissioner of the Matteson Homeowners’ Association, having previously held both Secretary and President roles with the Monarch Homeowners Association in Country Club Hills. She relocated to Matteson in 2004, where her leadership continues to enrich the community.

 

Amelia and her husband of 37 years, Pastor Murray Flemming, share a blended family with four children and five grandchildren, forming a close-knit and supportive family.

 

With an accomplished career spanning nearly 33 years at the Department of Justice, Amelia worked as an Intelligence Research Specialist with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) in Chicago’s Crime Gun Unit. In this role, she was instrumental in generating investigative leads for prosecutorial cases and managed a variety of firearms and compliance-related duties. Her commitment to justice and public safety extended beyond her core responsibilities, as she contributed to a range of collateral roles and initiatives, including:

 

• ATF Liaison to the Chicago Police Information Center (CPIC)

• Member of the Chicago Police Department Peer Support Team

• Member of the ATF Asset Recovery Team

• Co-Chair Federal Law Enforcement Agencies Black Affairs Committee

• Women’s Program Manager-Federal Executive Board

• Representative - ATF Equal Employment Opportunity Committee (EEOC) Diversity Peer Group

• Toastmasters International at West Van Buren Chapter

• President/Founding Member - CEKERS Women’s Investment Group

• Founding President of The Ruggles Alumni Association

 

Amelia’s dedication to service also extends into her faith. She is an ordained and Licensed Evangelist under the Pentecostal Assemblies of the World, having served alongside her husband for 25 years at the Apostolic Church of God under the late Emeritus Bishop Arthur M. Brazier.

 

In addition to her public service, Amelia serves as District Director for Illinois State Representative Debbie Meyers-Martin of the 38th District. She is a committed member of the Democratic Women of the Southland Region and the Rich Township Democratic Organization. Currently, she is pursuing a master’s degree in Family and Marriage Counseling at Governors State University in University Park, Illinois.

 

Amelia holds a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology with an emphasis in Counseling from Trinity International University, a foundation that has supported her in her roles across

public service and community leadership.
